ISP Internet Speed Limit cannot be bypassed. But if you are not achieving speed for which you paid then there might be couple of factors which can be fixed and you can speed up internet.
No one likes to browse pages when Internet is dead slow. Gone are the dialup days when people spent hours to browse few pages on slow internet. The era has changed. Now if you are wondering your Internet is slow and you’re being impatient. Then don’t worry I can feel your pain.
Everyone want to load webpage in blink of an eye and even more quicker. Because with growing Internet needs no one has time to stare and circle animation while watching videos.
I just want to clear one thing that you can never ever bypass the speed limit which is set by your ISP. Because the limit assigned is present is their servers and you can never get more than that. Unless there is some bug and you are fortunate enough to use it.
But if you are not getting the guaranteed bandwidth then there might be something on which you can work to fix. May be after following this tutorial you are able to speed up internet.
Checks To Speed Up Internet
Is it Slow Download Speed or Slow Browsing Speed?
First we need to start from basics. So that we can isolate our real culprit. We need to check that whether our download speed is slow or browsing speed or both? There can be any case.
Remember the PING speed plays huge role is browsing speed. It has happened with me couple of times that my download speed is great but my browsing speed is very poor. Also make sure to test it on couple of sites. Because it may happen that the site on which you are checking has its own server choked.
Similarly the download file which you are trying to struggle with slow speed may have its source server under load. Just be sure to test multiple files download from random servers to make sure what is your culprit.
Just as a tip, In normal circumstances too You can Increase your Download Speed Using tools like IDM.
Check Windows Update Settings
Since windows 10 it has been very difficult to switch off all updates processes. Please make sure there are no updates being downloaded in backend. That can also hamper the performance of your internet. To track down this you can open processes and see the Network services.
Personally I have setup Windows Updates to run Manually. Because when I have plenty of bandwidth and time only then I choose to run Windows Updates.
Check other System Services and Backend Programs
Besides Windows there might be other third party softwares as well who are stealing bandwidth from you. Like Google Update Services is set to start on all windows PC having Google Chrome. You can turn it off and make pc startup faster as well.
Check Connected Users in DHCP Clients List in Router Page
May be we are looking at wrong place 🙂 and the culprit is your roommate or neighbor down the street stealing your bandwidth and here you are scratching your head to speed up internet. Yeah it happens to all of us. Infact I should have mentioned this step earlier. Go to your router settings and look for page which says DHCP Clients.
There You’ll see all the count of users connected to your WiFi along with their Mac Addresses. Match the mac addresses with your known devices and block the ones which appear stranger to you. I suggest you to have strong password on Wifi which is long, having symbols and numbers and capital small case mixed.
Check Downstream Upstream Rate in Router Settings
Sometimes due to network technical issues your ISP may temporarily reduce the downstream and upstream rate. So it is always a good idea to see this in your router’s settings to make sure they are as per your promised package. May be the time at which you are struggling with slow internet is the same window when your ISP has reduced the fiber line parameters for you.
Do Internet Speed Test on Mobile
To identify if the issue with PC or internet you should do a speed test on mobile connected with same wifi. This wll hint you that whether internet is problematic or your PC has some hidden services stealing all bandwidth which is preventing you to speed up internet.
Well if everything above fails then I guess you need to call your ISP Help center. There might be some issue on your ISP backend.
Let me know if I missed anything to speed up internet, I would love to hear from your guys. Do post your comments if this guide helped you guys to troubleshoot slow Internet and mention that which check helped you.
